Jan is an award winning artist who began painting professionally after a management career with AT&T.

Jan is known for her use of bold, hot colors and outsider art tendencies and agrees with Vincent Van Gogh’s philosophy that “Color in a picture is like enthusiasm in life.”

Jan works in a wide variety of media. She paints in watercolor, oil, acrylics and creates mixed media collages, makes mirrors and sculpture with found objects, metal and jewels, and creates unique painted furniture pieces. She creates colorful pet portrait collages, as well. “Heavy texture appeals to me,” says Jan. Maybe that explains the magnetism of her art. Today, Jan’s paintings hang in collections throughout the South.

She has studied with prominent artists Terry Madden, Robert Burridge, Stephen Quiller, Betsy Dillard-Stroud, Vae Hamilton and Judy Soprano and with distinguished local artists Kathy Cuiffi, Elise Hammond and Cindy Murphy. She is a certified instructor for the Terry Madden method of watercolor painting and color theory.

Jan operates Picasso Kids @ Heartscapes at Heartscapes Art Gallery & Custom Framing in Covington, GA, where she teaches weekly children’s art classes. She is represented by Van Go’s Gallery, Covington, GA, and Broughton Artists’ Market in Madison, GA.

Jan served as Secretary-Treasurer of Southern Heartland Arts, Inc. for five years, served on the board of directors four years and was one of the original founders of the Southern Heartland Art Gallery. She is currently a member of the Art Lovers League, Covington, GA, the Monroe Art Guild, Monroe, GA, the North Georgia Artist Guild, Clayton, GA, and the Eastern Shore Art Center, Fairhope, AL.
